Update on EK

As I was sitting in EK's room tonight waiting for her to fall asleep, I realized that I haven't posted many updates on her lately. There are definitely things I want to write about so I'll remember in a couple months! We are continuing ABA therapy this summer at the Brent Woodall Foundation . We started going there last May and I am thankful I found out about it through a friend. It's very reasonably priced and I feel like they are trying to help her. We do 6 hours a week (2 hour segments on Monday, Wednesday, Friday). I'm still not completely convinced that ABA therapy is for EK, since she hasn't made much progress. She was doing ok before Christmas, but just hasn't made strides since then. That was a major reason we had the sleep-deprived EEG done in April. Remember that?? Two Fridays ago, her therapist asked Keith if we'd changed any meds. They noticed that EK's percentages were going up quite a bit. We had started something new that Monday, so it...

Vacation Bible School

This past week was VBS at our church. We always use Lifeway's curriculum (Southern Baptist publications) so this year we went to the Big Apple. Not so sure the preschoolers understood it, but I know it was fun for the school-aged kids! The 2 previous years EK didn't attend VBS because it was her first week of ESY (extended school year). It worked out well for the most part, except that I had to leave early each day to pick her up from school. This year, I agreed to teach music to the 2 and 3 year olds thinking that EK would have ESY again. (It's not that I didn't want her to go to VBS, I just thought it would be hard for her since it's a different routine. I didn't want her to cry the whole time and not allow the other kids to have fun.) So, this year ESY happens to start next week. Before I had time to think about what I was going to do, Ms. Sharla (her awesome teacher from school who is also a member of our church) offered to work with her during VBS! EK also ...

Another trip to the pool

Last Thursday, I took AC to the pool before school got out. I figured it would be one of the last days before lots of kids took over. :) This week, we had no plans on Thursday. No therapy, no doctor appointments, no school, NOTHING! That's very rare in this household. I decided we needed something to do to get out of the house so we went to the pool in the morning. I asked our neighbors to go with us so AC would have a friend to play with. One might think I'm a little crazy to be almost 28 weeks pregnant and take 2 girls to the pool (one being a special needs kiddo). I might be, but I thought it was worth a shot. A little background: EK has been freaking out during bathtime for the past month or so. At first, I thought maybe the bubbles were irritating her skin so I quit adding that. Then I stopped adding the epsom salt to her bath for the same reason. The screaming didn't stop. I've even tried putting her in the shower with me, but it's the same reaction. I have no...

EK is done with preschool!

Friday was a bittersweet day! It was EK's last day of school and that means, her last day of school with Ms. Sharla, Ms. Cecilia and Ms. Lara. She has been with Ms. Sharla and Ms. Cecilia 2 years now!! What an impact those sweet women have had on EK's life! Seriouly, I am so thankful that the Lord allowed EK to be placed in Ms. Sharla's class 2 years ago. She is a phenominal teacher who did everything she could to help EK succeed. Ms. Sharla daily had new ideas on how to teach EK, whether it was meeting a sensory need or figuring out what motivates EK. As much as I wish EK had made more progress the past couple years, it has nothing to do with a lack of effort on Ms. Sharla's part. Ms. Sharla retired this year and we're so thankful we'll be able to see her at church to keep in touch! :) EK doesn't like change and to be honest, her mother doesn't either. As of right now, we have decided to send EK to school all day at ERE. This is our home campus (which m...

Almost 27 weeks down

Hopefully in about 12 weeks we'll be meeting our baby boy. One that needs a name. I have a few favorites and Keith has a few favorites and they don't happen to be the same! :) We'll figure it out soon enough. We never make a big announcement before the baby comes. Partly, b/c I don't want to hear negative comments about the name choice. Really wish I didn't care so much what others think, but that's how I have always been. For now we'll refer to him at BBS (baby boy Sanders). He's getting bigger each day and he's very active. I feel him move all day long, which is very reassuring. According to the book I have, BBS is about 2 pounds now and 15 inches long. There is definitely no hiding that I'm pregnant now! My belly is growing, but it's not to the uncomfortable point yet. It's just getting harder to have the girls sit on my lap to do their hair and get EK's socks and shoes on. On Sunday, I am officially in my 3rd trimester. Each pregn...

1st trip to the pool

Last Friday, EK had water day at school. AC had been begging to go to our neighborhood pool for a couple weeks, so I decided Friday was the perfect day to go. I don't know that I'll be brave enough to take both girls to the pool by myself. It was a great day to be at the pool. Actually, it was a little too warm for me since I was only putting my feet in. :) I really don't like maternity bathing suits, but I just might cave as the temps get even higher this summer! AC was a little nervous at first. A healthy fear. :) Here she is swimming. Poor girl, she needs someone to teach her. She would just walk around the pool and move her arms. :) Next time we'll take some floaties and kick boards. This sweet face caused quite a scene when I told her we needed to leave and pick up her sister from school. We're planning to go again tomorrow, but there will be a talk beforehand. Hopefully our exit will not be quite so dramatic...
